Chaplain
Summary
Bancroft’s, one of the country’s leading co-educational day schools, are looking forward to welcoming a dedicated and passionate candidate, who will play a vital role in nurturing the spiritual and pastoral life of our school community.
Detail
Required from September 2025.
Bancroft’s School is a Christian foundation dating back to 1737, which welcomes pupils of diverse faith backgrounds and beliefs. As a community that values inclusivity, respect, and spiritual growth, we seek to appoint a Chaplain who will provide pastoral care, spiritual guidance, and support to our students in a multi-faith environment. The Chaplain will work closely with staff and students to foster an atmosphere of faith, inclusivity, and moral development in line with the ethos of the School. We embrace a holistic approach to education and all staff are expected to contribute to the wider life of the School.
The Chaplain may teach an academic subject and is likely to play an active part in the co-curricular life of the School. The Chaplain’s role embraces the whole Bancroft’s community, pupils, staff, parents and former pupils. The Chaplain will also seek to establish relations with local clergy and faith leaders.
Other aspects of the role can be discussed at interview and the final job description will be tailored to the interests and experiences of the successful candidate. Our Deputy Head Operations and Co-Curricular, Richard Channer, would be happy to discuss the role with any interested candidates prior to their application. He can be contacted via hr@bancrofts.org.
We offer a generous benefits package, including a competitive salary, and have a commitment to supporting ongoing professional development for all of our staff.
Bancroft’s School creates a happy learning environment, where bright children are challenged and supported to become the best versions of themselves. Bancroft’s is committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community - a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed on merit.

The closing date for applications is 9am on Monday 28 April 2025 and interviews will take place week commencing Monday 5 May 2025. Applications will be considered as they are received, so early applications are encouraged. We reserve the right to interview early applicants should a suitable candidate apply.
Bancroft’s is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Applicants are required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the role, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Bancroft’s may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants and all applicants will be required to provide details of their online profile, including social media accounts, as part of their applications.
The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Bancroft’s is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self-declaration form in advance of attending an interview (including those which are “spent” unless they are “protected” under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
