Teacher of Physics - Full and/or Part Time
- Location: North London
- School: Channing School
- Type: Full-time | Part-time
Summary
Channing School is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Teacher of Physics to join our vibrant Science Department from September 2026.
Detail
This full-time and/or part-time role offers the opportunity to teach across Key Stage 3, IGCSE and A level within a high-achieving and deeply supportive all-girls environment.
At Channing, we believe that scientific understanding empowers young women to question, explore and shape the world around them. Physics is a strong and flourishing subject, with students achieving excellent outcomes at both IGCSE and A level, and an increasing number progressing to STEM-related university courses including Engineering, Medicine and the Natural Sciences. More importantly, our students develop curiosity, resilience and confidence — qualities that stay with them long beyond public examinations.
From September 2026, Science will be taught in eleven brand new laboratories within our new STEM building, creating exceptional opportunities for practical exploration and investigative learning. The Physics team is collaborative and reflective, committed to continually enriching both curriculum and classroom practice. Pupils benefit from a wide range of co-curricular opportunities including Olympiads, competitions, Royal Observatory visits, Physics in Action and overseas STEM trips — experiences that broaden horizons and inspire ambition.
Channing is a close-knit learning community where girls are known and valued as individuals. Our whole-school focus on ambitious and inspirational teaching is underpinned by our Principles of Great Teaching and Trusted Techniques, which provide a shared professional language rooted in research and collective expertise. Central to our approach is the Learning Pit — the understanding that deep learning involves challenge, perseverance and thoughtful support. We are looking for a teacher who is excited by this philosophy and who is committed to nurturing Fearless Learners in their classroom.
The Science Department comprises eight full-time and four part-time teachers across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, supported by three experienced technicians. Teaching follows an integrated KS3 curriculum, Pearson Edexcel IGCSE at KS4 and Edexcel A level in Physics. Professional development is highly valued, and colleagues are encouraged to contribute to our collaborative Teaching & Learning community.
We are seeking a reflective and knowledgeable teacher with a strong understanding of the 11–18 curriculum and a passion for working with young people. The successful candidate will combine high academic expectations with warmth, encouragement and attentiveness to individual pupils. A willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school — including pastoral care as a Form Tutor and leadership of co-curricular activities — is essential to sustaining our strong sense of community.
Rooted in our Unitarian foundation, Channing values intellectual curiosity, open-mindedness and respect. We are proud of our inclusive and purposeful environment, where every girl is encouraged to develop confidence, character and a lifelong love of learning. Our most recent ISI inspection (November 2025) endorsed the strength of our provision and the quality of our school community.
