Job Description for Pre-Prep Dance, Drama and Music Teacher


Children begin their Danes Hill education in the Pre-Preparatory department at Bevendean. Bevendean is on its own self-contained site where we offer a safe but stimulating environment for the boys and girls. Bevendean has its own Head who is responsible for the day to day running of all aspects of the pre-prep experience and she liaises closely with the Headmaster to ensure a smooth transition from the Pre-Prep to the Main School site. Language development and numeracy are important components of the school day, with science, French, music, drama, art and a wide range of physical activities playing their parts in the broad and balanced curriculum


There are three year groups at Bevendean, each one having four classes. Every class is taught by a form teacher with the help of a teaching assistant.


Dance, Drama, Music Teacher Specification:


• To deliver a creative curriculum based on dance, drama, role play and music to enhance and enrich the learning of Early Years and KS1 pupils.


• To deliver creative dance sessions that encourage the pupils to explore movement, learn key physical skills and to imaginatively create, perform and appreciate dance.


• To teach music lessons based on the Foundation Stage and KS1 Music Express curriculum.


• To teach ensemble singing.


• Through drama and role play, engage pupils in story telling and characterisation to enhance learning of topic work, language and literacy skills.


• Produce and prepare pupils for end of term concerts and open days, including the directing of scenes, choreography and the teaching of songs.


General duties and responsibilities


The following duties shall be deemed to be included in the professional duties which a teacher may be required to perform.


1a Planning and preparing courses, schemes of work and individual lessons, appropriate to the needs, interests, experience and existing knowledge of the pupils in one’s class.


1b Teaching, according to their educational needs, pupils assigned to him/her, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the pupils in school and elsewhere.


1c Marking and assessing pupils’ work and recording their development, progress and attainment both at school and elsewhere.


1d Maintaining an attractive and stimulating classroom environment and contributing to displays in the school as a whole.


2a Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and of any class or group of pupils assigned to him/her.


2b Providing guidance and advice to pupils on educational and social matters.


2c Making records of and reports on the personal and social needs of pupils.


2d Communicating and consulting with the parents of pupils. Making records of all formal communications with parents.


2e Participating in meetings at school or elsewhere as required by the Headmaster or Senior Management.


2f Attending school related events and functions at school or elsewhere as required by the Headmaster or Senior Management.


3 Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils as required.


4 Participating as required in any scheme of staff development and performance review.


5 Maintaining good order, discipline and respect for others among pupils; to promote understanding of the school’s rules and values; to safeguard health and safety and to develop relationship with and between pupils conducive to optimum learning.


6 Supervising and teaching any pupils whose teacher is not available.


7 Being fully aware of all school policies and school procedures as detailed in the staff handbook and to promote and comply with said policies and procedures.
