The Headmaster and CEO of Eltham College Family of Schools is seeking to appoint a Head of Sports Science which is a exciting new position to take overall leadership for the delivery of the teaching of Sports Science, which is being introduced to the school curriculum as an option subject at GCSE and A-level from September 2025. The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner with a proven record of achieving high academic outcomes for pupils. They will possess the leadership, organisation and interpersonal skills necessary to manage colleagues, encourage creativity and passion for Sports Science to design an engaging programme of study.

Eltham College is a highly successful independent day school in south-east London, educating boys and girls aged 7 to 18 across both Junior and Senior Schools. The College has grown considerably over recent years: there are now over 800 students in the Senior School and around 260 pupils in the Junior School and places are heavily oversubscribed. Since 2020, girls have been able to join Years 3 and 7, mirroring the Sixth Form which has been coeducational for over 45 years. The school places an equal emphasis on academic, pastoral and co-curricular excellence and has an outstanding reputation in all three areas as well as for the friendly, unpretentious nature of daily life.

Department

Eltham College is set within 67 acres of playing fields and enjoys the use of the Eric Liddell Sports Centre on site, as well as two hockey astroturf pitches (after recently investing £1m in a second pitch), MUGA and tennis/netball courts.

Students compete at national level in skiing & fencing, as well as at regional level in in athletics, cross country, tennis, netball, swimming and water polo. In addition to this, Eltham College offers a wide range of sports within the PE and Sports programme.

The school currently enjoys a unique relationship with the Old Elthamians Rugby Club (Youth Section), Blackheath and Old Elthamians Hockey Club, and Old Elthamians Cricket Club, all of which are based on the school grounds.
