This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a community that is redefining excellence in girls’ education. The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2026 has named NLCS the Independent Secondary School of the Year 2026, and we are proud to be ranked the No. 1 girls’ school in the country. This prestigious accolade reflects our outstanding academic achievement as well as the depth, breadth, and vibrancy of school life.

Here at North London Collegiate School, we are committed to supporting colleagues that wish to begin a career in teaching, either as a first job following graduation or switching to teaching from another profession. We have an established partnership with the University of Buckingham through which we offer an on-the-job route to qualification, with no prior teaching experience required.
About the course / training
This is an employment-based route where you can work as a teacher and train to be a qualified teacher at the same time.
The course lasts for 37 weeks and covers a full and demanding curriculum. You learn whilst working in the classroom, fully supported by a Mentor along with participating in a blended learning programme provided by a team of experienced practitioners working with the School and University. You will be assigned a Tutor employed by the University who will visit you and work with you throughout the year. This course will support you as you develop your identity as a teacher and help you to find and refine your own teaching style.
About you
You are passionate and enthusiastic about Chemistry, driven by a desire to spark curiosity and help students understand the world through science. You have or are working towards the minimum required qualification of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related subject (2:2 or above) and are eager to continue growing professionally. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are excited to work alongside, and learn from, experienced colleagues who are experts in their field. Most importantly, you are committed to investing the time, energy, and dedication needed to develop your vocation and make a meaningful, lasting impact on our highly academic students’ learning.
About the School
NLCS enjoys a great degree of academic success, which is a testament to the subject expertise and passion of the teachers who work here. We regularly feature at the very top of academic league tables. Whilst examination success is only part of the picture at NLCS, joining our team of teachers in this aspirational environment provides a first-class career opportunity.
We teach a broad, flexible curriculum which goes beyond exam requirements. All staff participate in the vibrant extra curricular life of the school, and we offer an extensive range of clubs, societies, exchanges and trips to a variety of locations around the world.
Entry requirements for candidates are a first- or second-class bachelor’s degree (or equivalent of) in a relevant subject, in addition to passions for their subject and a desire to work with young people.
We can offer:
A positive working environment within an extremely well-resourced school where excellent relationships between staff and students are the norm, expectations are high and students perform very well as a consequence.
A highly competitive salary structure based on, but substantially above, national scales. This role will be paid according to experience and qualifications.
For candidates looking to relocate, subsidised accommodation on site may be available.
The opportunity to develop professionally; improve and extend your knowledge; develop skills and experience; share outstanding and innovative practice; and contribute to the development of a challenging and supportive learning environment in and outside of the classroom.
