The role
Reporting to the Deputy Head Pastoral, the Health Centre Lead (HCL) plays a pivotal role in ensuring that Oundle School delivers a comprehensive, professionally compliant and fully integrated healthcare service. Working within a progressive boarding school environment, the HCL builds strong and effective relationships both within the Health Centre team and with key stakeholders across the School, embracing a “Team Around the Child” approach to multidisciplinary collaboration in support of our pupils.
This role includes some work outside term time to support strategic planning and operational readiness. During term time, the HCL participates in an on call rota. Onsite accommodation is provided, if required.
About the Health Centre
The Health Centre sits at the heart of the School’s commitment to pupil wellbeing, offering medical care and health services to both boarding and day pupils, as well as a limited service to staff and visiting pupils.
Key features include:-
GP surgeries for boarders three days a week
A team of Registered Nurses on duty 8am–8pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am–3pm on Sundays
First point of contact for medical issues beyond routine over-the-counter remedies provided in Houses
Nurse‑led clinics, sports day emergency care and triage
Routine and travel vaccinations
Advice and guidance on health related matters
Access to externally provided physiotherapy services

The School
Oundle and Laxton Junior Schools have long been associated with the very best of modern independent education, especially boarding. Over 1400 pupils are on roll at the School, of whom 840 are full boarders. Academic results are steadfastly excellent.
A team of around 800 staff, both academic and support, ensure an education of the highest standard is in place across the Schools with the efforts of the whole team focused on this fundamental aim.
Working weeks and hours
The role covers 41.4 working weeks, paid for 47 weeks, including holiday entitlement. Average of 40 hours per week, with a primarily Monday–Friday schedule. Flexibility is required to support the needs of a full boarding school.

We are fortunate in our location at the heart of a beautiful market town. School and town are part of the same community and our pupils take their place within this community, not isolated from it. The town has a spirited cultural life, with an annual international festival, literature festival, and frequent performances of nationally touring shows at the School’s Stahl Theatre.
