Pembroke House School is seeking to appoint an inspiring, strategic and deeply child‑centred Head to lead this exceptional co‑educational IAPS prep school into its second century.

Founded in 1927 and set in the heart of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, Pembroke House is a full boarding school of around 220 pupils, renowned for its warmth, spirit, and commitment to developing confident, grounded and adventurous young people.

A Pembroke education blends the highly regarded British curriculum with an outstanding co‑curricular programme, modern and flexible boarding, and a strong emphasis on character, integrity and individual achievement. Pupils routinely progress to leading senior schools in the UK, South Africa and Kenya, following the ISEB Common Entrance pathway

The Role

We are looking to appoint a Headteacher who will:

● Build on Pembroke House’s long‑established reputation for academic ambition, pastoral excellence and all‑round education.

● Lead with clarity, warmth and purpose, inspiring pupils and staff alike.

● Champion the school’s boarding ethos and vibrant extra‑curricular life, ensuring that every child is known, challenged and supported.

● Strengthen the school’s strategic direction in partnership with the Pembroke House Council (the Board of Governors).

● Uphold and model the school’s values of curiosity, courage, spirit of adventure, compassion, resilience and integrity - qualities fostered through the unique Pembroke experience.

We welcome applications from current Heads as well as senior leaders seeking their first headship. For the successful candidate, a comprehensive handover will be arranged.

All new staff will be subject to enhanced DBS clearance (or international equivalent), identity checks, qualification checks, employment checks including exploration of any gaps, three satisfactory references (including current employer), and police clearance from all countries of previous employment.

* Please note that to qualify for approval by the Ministry of Education to work as a Headteacher in Kenya, for permit approval by the Department of Immigration Services and, ultimately, for registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), any candidate must have a university degree (BA / BSc / BEd etc.) in a curriculum subject with a corresponding PGCE / PGDE and a license to teach (QTS, TSC, SACE or equivalent); at least 5 years of teaching experience and at least 5 years of leadership experience at senior or middle‑leadership level.
