Summary

We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and reflective Class Teacher to join our friendly and supportive prep school community. This is an exciting opportunity to teach within a nurturing environment where pupils are known as individuals and encouraged to flourish both academically and personally. The successful candidate will take responsibility for a class of pupils and fulfilling all duties associated with being a class teacher. They will also contribute to teaching across other classes and year groups where appropriate, working collaboratively with colleagues to support continuity and progression throughout the school. A strong knowledge of the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 curriculum and assessment frameworks is essential, alongside a commitment to academic excellence, high expectations, and carefully differentiated teaching that enables every child to make good progress. Candidates should be confident in their use of ICT to enhance learning and able to create a stimulating, well-organised classroom environment supported by high-quality displays. The role requires a commitment to effective planning, assessment, and record keeping, as well as a willingness to engage fully in staff meetings, INSET, and the wider life of the school. The successful candidate will support pupils’ personal development, wellbeing, and pastoral care, developing positive and professional relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues. Beyond the classroom, teachers are expected to contribute to the school’s vibrant co-curricular programme. This includes involvement in clubs, school events, trips, and duties before, during, and after the school day. An interest or strength in English teaching would be highly advantageous, as would a willingness to support school games afternoons, providing pupils with further opportunities to develop confidence, teamwork, and a love of physical activity. This role would suit a committed and adaptable teacher who enjoys working as part of a close-knit team and is eager to play a full role in a small prep school where relationships, creativity, and high standards sit at the heart of everything we do.

The post holder may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the school.

• Teach all subjects as required to a class of pupils, undertaking all of the duties expected of a class teacher

• Teach any required subjects to other groups and classes, as reasonably required

• Maintain a good up-to-date knowledge of the EYFS and Key Stage 1 curriculum and assessment procedures.

• Be committed to academic excellence and develop and implement programmes of study to ensure that each pupil develops at a good pace through differentiated planning and teaching

• Use a range of ICT equipment and software appropriate to the year group

• Provide a stimulating learning environment through display, that is routinely maintained

• Maintain full and informative records efficiently • Documented planning for the short, medium and long term

• Support colleagues as necessary and cooperatively to work as part of a team, attending all meetings and INSET

• Undertake duties before, during and after school as required

• Participate in co-curricular school activities including clubs, sports fixtures and residential field trips

• To lead school council fortnightly meetings and share minutes with staff

• Attend school functions

• Be committed to the personal development of the pupils in the form and take responsibility for their welfare and social well-being

• To liaise with colleagues as pupils move throughout the school

• Develop effective professional relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents

• Keep the Head fully informed of any significant developments concerning any pupil in the form

• Any other duties reasonably required
