Department - Estates
Responsible To - Head of Facilities and Transport
Salary - £14.79 per hour (Point 4 on St Peter's Support Scale)
Hours of work: Possibility of both fixed part-time hours or ad-hoc and when the school requires extra staffing.
We run two shift patterns covering the hours below:

Your rota will be agreed to a minimum of two weeks in advance or longer if on fixed part-time hours, however some flexibility will be required in order to cover unforeseen absences. Please note that the rota operates for 365 days per year, including bank holidays.
Overall Purpose of the Post
To provide a responsive, efficient and professional support service to the School including porterage and ensuring the safety and security of the School’s pupils, staff, visitors, property, premises and facilities.
The nature of the role is such that an exhaustive list of duties is not possible. On any given day a Facilities Assistant may be required to transport materials, paint a wall, sweep paths, drive the minibus, unload a delivery of furniture, conduct the daily parking checks and deal appropriately with a possible trespasser.
This is a very public role which, combined with the fact that Facilities Assistants are often the people with full responsibility for the site, makes it an important role for the School.
Key Responsibilities
To undertake porterage and caretaking duties including the setting up and clearing of rooms in preparation for meetings, lessons, exams and functions.
To conduct daily collection and delivery of laundry.
To drive the school vehicles, including the minibuses. On occasions this may involve transporting pupils to and from school.
To act as fire wardens in the event of an alarm
To be the School’s representative, ensuring excellent customer service at all times to pupils, parents, staff and visitors.
To conduct the collection and delivery of internal and external mail.
To respond quickly to cleaning requirements that fall outside of normal cleaner hours such as functions.
To ensure that the school’s vehicle fleet is safe and secure by conducting the regular checks.
To understand and comply with the health and safety requirements of the role (for which training will be given). This may include the use of personal, protective equipment and adherence to safety rules and assessments.
To unlock and/or secure all buildings, and report any defective locks, security lights and other aspects of the school’s property and premises that may require repair or maintenance.
To undertake general maintenance work as requested. This may include painting, minor joinery, plumbing and electrical tasks.
To undertake clearing of paths etc. during periods of bad weather (e.g. snow, ice etc.).
To regularly patrol the school site ensuring security is maintained, including perimeter gates and fences.
To record any incidents or breaches of security, incidents of injury or damage to property to the Head of Facilities & Transport.
To respond to intruder and fire alarms, taking appropriate action as required, including the summoning of emergency services.
To test fire alarms on a regular basis throughout the school, including the boarding houses, pool and other ancillary buildings, keeping accurate logs and reporting any faults.
To provide a friendly and efficient enquiry service for pupils, parents and visitors to the School ensuring those that need to sign in, in the appropriate log book.
