About the role:

Walhampton School is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic English Teacher to join our strong and supportive department, teaching Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils and inspiring a love of reading and writing.

This is a part-time role of either 0.4 FTE or 0.6 FTE, working four or five mornings per week, as English is taught in the mornings.

What You Will Do:

  • Deliver high-quality English lessons to pupils in Years 6 to 8 that are engaging, inclusive and appropriately challenging.
  • Inspire pupils to develop confidence and passion as readers, writers and communicators.
  • Plan effectively, assess progress carefully and adapt teaching to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Work alongside a Form Tutor to support the pastoral care of an assigned group of pupils.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, including co-curricular activities, duties and school events.
  • Uphold and actively promote the School’s safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic teacher who enjoys working collaboratively and is keen to play a full part in the life of a busy and caring school community.

Essential:

  • A good honours degree in English or a related subject, or significant experience delivering an effective English curriculum.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent.
  • Experience of teaching English at Key Stage 2 and/or Key Stage 3.
  • Strong classroom practice with effective behaviour management and organisation.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and IT skills.
  • A clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • Experience of incorporating educational technology into teaching and learning.
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities for suitably ambitious candidates.
